Housekeeping Department Safety

Employee accident rates in the housekeeping department are generally among the highest in the hotel. There are two reasons for this. The first is the simple fact that the housekeeping department is usually one of the hotels largest in terms of the number of workers it employs.

The second reason, however, relates to the physical nature of the job. Housekeepers often work with equipment and supplies that must be very carefully handled if accidents are to be avoided.

Proper housekeeping equipment and supplies help improve productivity and safety as well as reduce accidents and therefore should be provided to each housekeeper and placed, where appropriate, on every room attendant cart. If they are not, unnecessary on-the-job injuries will result and medical-related costs for the hotel will increase.
